5th Grade Yearbook Cover Design

Contest Rules & Guidelines

1. Eligibility:

• Open to all 5th Grade students. 
• One entry per student.

2. Deadline:

• Entries must be submitted by Friday, November 10th, 2023.  All completed designs are to be returned to Mrs. Ruffennach. Please note that no late entries will be considered.

3. Qualifications:

• Must incorporate our school theme: “On Island Time."  
• Must be drawn on 8 ½ by 11 inch paper. 
• Paper must be oriented vertically (portrait) and not horizontally (landscape) to fit on front cover.
• Must be original artwork of the student.

4. Artistic Guidelines:

• Your design should include the words "On Island Time" 
• Use color contrast in your artwork (a bright color next to a dark color).
• Thick black outlines print the best.
• Markers are recommended for the design, but you may use crayons and/or colored pencils to fill in background space. 
• Advice for your design: LESS IS MORE!  A simple and well-planned drawing will print better than a design that is full of too many things.
• Do not put your name in your design. When submitting your design, write your name in pencil on the back of your artwork.
• Consider selecting a color/shading for the background of your design. Otherwise, your artwork may appear to be incomplete.

5. Judging and Winning Design Announcement:

• Top designs will be selected by a PFA committee, and the final voting on these top designs will be done blindly by the BWE faculty and staff.
• Criteria for the top designs will be based on originality, creativity, and support of this year’s theme. The designs will also have to reproduce well as a book cover.
• The winning design will be announced prior to Winter Break.
• The winning design receives a free 2023-24 Yearbook!

Remember submissions are due by Friday, November 10th, 2023!
