Get Involved — Volunteer!

When adults volunteer, all students benefit! There are many opportunities for parents and community members to get involved! 

 

We have many volunteer committees that work throughout the year to make BWE a special school. If you are interested in helping on any of the committees, please contact one of the committee chairs listed in the chart below.

 

 

 

2022-2023 COMMITTEEs

 

After School Programs

Coordinates after-school programs. Typically, two sessions are held, one in the fall and one in the winter/spring. Responsibilities include program development with internal/external instructors, management of student registration, and execution of programs with assistance of PFA & staff. 

Assemblies

Serves as the liaison between the Staff Representative and Vendor to schedule assemblies. (Usually 2  per year)   Will need to coordinate with school secretary space availability and vendor needs.  Will also need to ensure assembly is within budget and provide invoice for services provided. 

Elementary Night at the Football Game

Along with representatives of the other elementary schools and the athletic office, helps to coordinate the planning and logistics of this event. Also responsible for overseeing BWE’s  t-shirt, ticket and food sales as well as BWE’s table on the evening of the event.

Celebration Book Program

This program provides an opportunity for families to donate books to the BWE library in honor of a student.  Families are notified by email prior to the date of the child’s birthday (or half-birthday for summer birthdays). Chairperson works with Mrs Flaherty (Librarian) and Mrs Thornton (Library Secretary).  The Celebration Book program uses an Amazon Wish List to make it easy for families to order books. 

Caring and Family Support

Assists and supports the BWE community through the direction of the guidance counselor when severe, life altering events create an extraordinary need. This committee oversees charitable giving projects, including collections of food, clothing and school related items. (Winter Coat Drive, Thanksgiving Food Drive, School-Wide Service Project)

Environmental

This committee provides assistance with the maintenance and care of the pond, bird feeders, courtyard, and school entryways.  They collect ink cartridges and cell phone batteries for recycling and organize environmentally focused programs. 

Field Day

Field day coordinators work with Mrs. Frisco (P.E. teacher) to organize and provide volunteers for games and activities for Field Day.  They also coordinate the Field Day snack (usually Ritas).  This event is held near the end of the school year in May or June.

Fundraisers

Coordinates and manages main fundraising drives. Fundraising is intended to generate a majority of the PFA budget each year. Fundraising Chair(s) work  closely with the Executive Board to ensure continuity, communication and implementation of agreed upon fundraising drives.  Amazon Smile & Box Tops will be overseen by this committee.

Holiday Shop

Provides children with an opportunity to shop for reasonably priced holiday items for family and friends in early December. Fifth graders serve as “elves” to assist younger children with shopping. This committee selects products to be offered and coordinates this event.

Homeroom Parents

Responsible for recruiting 1-2 parents to serve as Homeroom Parents for each class. Holds an informational meeting for the parent volunteers and provides guidelines for the classroom parties. The Homeroom Parent(s) then coordinate volunteers and facilitate planning both the Holiday Party in December and Spring Party in May. Chairperson works closely with the school secretary to ensure clearances are on file for all volunteers. 

Maker Space

The new Maker Space is a collaborative work space where students K-5 have the opportunity to explore their creativity and design through art, multimedia & technology. Committee Chair helps Dr. Eimiller & the Board to update, clean & maintain the space as needed.

Staff Appreciation Committee

This committee coordinates and provides treats and expressions of gratitude throughout the school year (may or may not be food items).  (Back to school breakfast,  parent/teacher conference dinner, staff water cooler, etc.)

Staff Appreciation Week

During National Teacher Appreciation Week (1st week in May), we dedicate a whole week showing our appreciation for the hardworking staff at BWE.  This committee will be responsible for the planning, organizing, and execution of the week-long festivities.  

Technology Team

Works with the current Technology Officer (serving on the Executive Board) to understand the website, software and systems.

Traveling Art Gallery

There are many wonderful and diverse examples of art and this committee helps share these different pieces with the students. This committee and its volunteers help promote an awareness and appreciation for paintings and other works from the “masters”. Artwork and research materials are provided by the school district.

Yearbook

Coordinates the selection of the publishing company, the sale of the books, gathering materials, page layout and design and other related activities.

Elementary Advisory Committee (EAC) Representative

Attends EAC meetings and reports back to the PFA. 

Superintendent

Parent Liaison Committee (SPLC) Representative

Attends each monthly SPLC meeting and reports back to the PFA.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 
It is only through the support of parents like you, that the PFA can continue to operate and provide for our students the programs, events and opportunities that it does.
